Settling in for a Witchy Hygge November
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Samhain last week. This week, we look toward November and the coming winter months. We will discuss how to stay cozy (and witchy) this November.
What is Hygge? It is a Scandinavian word that doesn’t have a direct English translation, but just think, warm cup of tea and a good book snuggled up in a blanket. It basically means cozy, warm, etc.
Some ideas for a Hygge November that I got from www.witchoflupinehollow.com are:
- Spending time at your altar, update the decorations moving toward a more wintery theme. You don’t need to only spend time at your altar when you are doing workings. It is a great space to spend time, meditate, just enjoy the beauty of the items you have gathered for that special place and what they mean to you.
- Pay attention to the weather. If you like the crisp air of autumn, plan activities outdoors. Or, have your morning coffee or tea outside with the cooler temperatures the season offers.
- Pay special attention to the hearth of your home. If you aren’t familiar with the hearth of your home, it is usually a fireplace or if you don’t have one, whatever you feel is the heart of your home (i.e. the kitchen, etc.) With spending more time indoors during the colder months, what activities can you center around the heart of your home? Maybe some kitchen witchery, knitting, sewing, painting, anything that makes you feel cozy and warm.
Additional ideas I got from www.magickalspot.com are:
- Gentle stretching or yoga
- If you have a woodburning (not gas) fireplace, you can throw herbs in, like dried orange peels for creative energy, cinnamon for abundance, or pine for purification. (It goes without saying to always practice fire safety!)
- A soothing bath with candles, herb blends, or essential oils is a good way to relax. You can also add Epsom salts for protection.
Some other ideas would be, taking up a new hobby like candle making, sewing, or knitting would all be a great way to bring more witchiness into your home.
Moving towards Yule, you can dry herbs, orange slices, and cranberries and use them for decoration.
You can even do some divination with your home in mind. I found this one from @bewitchingfates
Draw 4 cards:
1. How can I increase protection of my home?
2. What can I add to feel more at home?
3. What can I take away to feel more at home?
4. My ideal home environment is ____?
Lastly, you can check out the book The Hygge Witch Handbook by Courtney Hope (not sponsored). It has been on my wish list for a while I haven’t read it yet.
